Family Trout Fishing Adventure in Wisconsin Dells
🎣 Trout Fishing:
Last weekend we packed the kiddos into the car, rolled down the windows, and let the country roads playlist guide our day. Our plan? No strict plan at all — just a family adventure that led us to a few different places——B&H Trout Fishing & Bait Shop being one of them!
A Little History, a Lot of Fun
B&H has been welcoming families since the 1950s, tucked right off Highway 13. Two spring-fed ponds, stocked with rainbow, brook, and brown trout, make it easy for even the youngest anglers to experience the thrill of the catch. No fishing license is needed here, and all the gear and bait are provided — perfect for a day with kids who are eager to explore something new.
We love finding new spots, so we’re not the type to go back to the same “typical” fishing place over and over. That sense of discovery made every splash, every cast, and every cheer feel like a mini-adventure.
Why the Kids Loved It
Quick wins: The ponds are small and kid-friendly, so everyone felt like a pro within minutes.
Hands-on help: The staff showed the kids how to handle their catch and even helped bag our trout for the ride home.
Picnic-perfect setting: Plenty of space for snack breaks, chairs for resting, and wide-open water views — the perfect country roads backdrop.
The laughter, the excitement of the catch, and the pride in their accomplishments made it a day full of genuine joy — and a reminder that exploring new places is always worth it.
They watched the staff fillet the trout right before their eyes. They were amazed at how fast she cleaned, deboned, and removed the skin — it looked like magic! I was teasing the kiddos that they might need to take filleting lessons from her so they can do it themselves next time. Although the two older ones know how, just not as fast. When we returned home, the day’s adventures became dinner. Freshly baked trout, roasted potatoes, and veggies turned our kitchen into a little celebration of what we had caught. The kids helped with rinsing and seasoning the fish, making it a cooking lesson and a memory all in one. The smell of smoky trout and pine-scented memories lingered, and for a moment, the kitchen felt like the end of the perfect country roads day.
More Family Fun Nearby
If you’re exploring the Dells with kids, there’s plenty to keep the adventure rolling:
Take a nature walk after fishing — there are scenic spots perfect for letting the kids run and explore.
Of Course the many many water parks, and mini golf.
Reward your little anglers with ice cream or bakery treats nearby — they love counting their fish while enjoying a sweet snack.
Keep the fun going at home with a kitchen experiment night: let the kids help cook your catch, adding sides from your pantry and turning it into a family event.
As we drove home, tired but happy, rods resting beside sleepy kiddos and a bag of trout in the backseat, I couldn’t help but smile. Days like this — a little fishing, a little kitchen, a lot of laughter — are exactly why we chase the country roads.
Because discovering new places, catching fish, and cooking together? That’s our kind of adventure.
