Family Fun in Algoma, Wisconsin —

Algoma has always been one of those places that just feels like home ❤️. I’ve been going there since I was younger — back when summer weekends meant camping with my parents and sisters, evenings filled with laughter, first “crushes” and days that seemed to stretch on forever running around with other camper kids⛺🌤️.

Once I had children of my own I started bringing them to share along in the memories. As my sisters grew older and we all started families of our own it has always been a great place to come back to. We have spent many of 4th of Julys in Algoma. The campground would light up with fireworks, and everyone would gather around their sites, — kids with glow sticks, parents by the fire 🔥, and that soft buzz of excitement in the air.

Somedays we’d make our way into town to walk along Lake Michigan , grab an ice cream, sit by the pier and watch the boats roll in, or head over to Renard’s Cheese to grab the famous squeaky cheese curds, that we could never get enough of.🧀😋

I went out fishing with my dad and friends a few times🎣. I learned the hard way that the big charter boats aren’t for me. Early mornings, hoodies pulled tight, snacks packed, and that excitement of waiting to see what the lake had in store. Now, my boys go out with my dad and his friends — not on the same boat, but with the same energy and laughter echoing across the water. Seeing them come back, grinning ear to ear and holding up their catch 🐟, just hits the heart.

Algoma for us was never really about the “sand between your toes” even though we were so close to the beach — it was more about camping. Family time. Jump pads, swimming pools, bike parades 🚴‍♀️, art and crafts hours, cards, bingo night and cornhole tournaments. We’ve had more water fights 💦 and roasted more marshmallows than I can count. Nights around the campfire 🔥, stories shared, laughter that carried through the trees 🌲 — those are the kind of memories that stick with you.

And even though we’ve been coming here for years, there’s still plenty to see and do outside of the campground:

Things to Do in Algoma 🗺️

🎣 Go Fishing on Lake Michigan
Whether you’re heading out on a charter or hanging by the marina 🚤, fishing is a big part of Algoma life. Watching the boats come in at sunset with fresh catches is such a peaceful way to end the day 🌅.

🚲 Ahnapee State Trail
If you love a good family bike ride or a peaceful walk, this trail is perfect 🌳. For us it was right off of our campground, so we walked it often. You’ll pass through woods, creeks, and open fields — it’s quiet, easy, and full of that Door County charm.

🍕 Pizza Bowl
This one’s a childhood favorite of mine! We used to go there when I was younger — grab a pizza, bowl a few games 🎳, and laugh until our sides hurt. It’s simple, family fun that never gets old.

🌮 Tippy Canoe
If you love tacos (and really, who doesn’t?), make sure to stop by Tippy Canoe in Casco 🌮. The food’s always delicious and it’s a local go-to for a reason!

🍷 Von Stiehl Winery
A must for the adults 🍇. Wisconsin’s oldest licensed winery — grab a glass, enjoy the views, and take a stroll around their historic building downtown.

🧀 Renard’s Cheese
You have to stop here for fresh squeaky cheese curds 🧀 — it’s a Wisconsin staple! They’ve got all kinds of local goodies too, perfect for a picnic or snack by the campfire.

🍔 Smashed on the Rocks
Right on the water, and hands-down one of our favorites 🍔🍹. Amazing food, fun atmosphere, and the kind of view that makes you want to stay awhile.

🍦 Where to Get Ice Cream
Stop by Cedar Crossing Ice Cream & Deli downtown 🍦. The kids love it, and it’s the perfect little treat after a day at the campground or a walk by the pier.

🌅 Algoma Pierhead Lighthouse
Take a stroll out to the red lighthouse — it’s one of those must-do photo ops 📸. It’s peaceful, beautiful, and the perfect place to just breathe it all in.

🎉 Summer Festivals
If you plan your trip right, you might catch one of Algoma’s fun summer festivals! Shanty Days is one of the biggest 🎶 — a whole weekend packed with live music, a parade, food trucks, and fireworks over the lake 🌊🎇. There’s also WineFest, Soar on the Shore, and Algoma Car Show, each bringing that small-town charm and community spirit that make Algoma so special 💕.

At the end of the day, though, what makes Algoma special isn’t just what you do — it’s how it feels 💛.

It’s the slow mornings by the camper, the kids laughing on their bikes, and the quiet evenings with nothing but the sound of the fire crackling. It fills my bucket. 💕

Every time we go back, it feels like a little piece of home 🏕️❤️.

So if you’ve never been — pack the bikes, grab the marshmallows, and make a weekend of it 🧺🚗. Watch the fireworks, eat some cheese curds, play a round of cornhole, and soak it all in. Because once you’ve spent a few days in Algoma, you’ll understand — it’s not just a spot on the map… it’s a place your heart will always come back to 💕.
