Simon’s Speciality Cheese Store
🧀 Big Cheese, Cold Cows, and Cozy Hoodies
If you know us, you know that whenever we’re traveling Wisconsin backroads, we can’t pass up a good cheese stop — and our recent winter visit to Simon’s Specialty Cheese Store turned into one of those simple family moments that just sticks with you.
First stop? The cows outside, of course.
The kiddos were fascinated — and absolutely cracking up about their cold little booties standing out there in the winter weather. Nothing makes kids laugh harder than farm life in real time. We snapped a few photos, stood next to the big mouse statue (because you have to), and then headed inside to warm up and explore.
Simon’s isn’t just another roadside shop — it’s a long-standing Wisconsin cheese destination with roots going back to 1940, when Art and Ann Simon bought a small cheese plant and started selling locally made cheese directly to travelers and neighbors. Over the decades it grew into the well-known family-run store it is today, still tied closely to Wisconsin’s dairy farms and cheesemaking traditions. And honestly, you can feel that history the second you walk in.
Inside was basically cheese heaven mixed with classic Wisconsin gifts and snacks — something for everyone:
🧀 Of course we grabbed mozzarella whips and fresh cheese curds (because… Wisconsin).
🐟 The oldest found some smoked salmon he was excited about.
🍬 One of the littles picked out cow tails — but after already having ice cream earlier, mom made the executive decision that those were saved for the next day.
👕 My husband found a shirt perfect for my fisherman dad, and I left with a cozy “Supper Club, Fish Fry, Cheese & Old Fashioned” Wisconsin hoodie that basically sums up the whole state in one sentence.
We didn’t rush — just wandered the aisles, laughed with the kids, and enjoyed one of those easy family stops that reminds you why Wisconsin road trips are so special. No big plans, no big expectations — just good food, local history, and memories made between destinations.
Simon’s is the kind of place that feels like a little slice of Wisconsin culture — where dairy heritage meets family fun and you always leave with something delicious (and probably something cozy to wear too).
If you’re passing through Little Chute — especially with kids — it’s absolutely worth the stop. Check out our visit HERE
