Real Life Mom Monday: Dance, Aldi Runs, and Dishwasher Drama
Monday Fun Day… or Something Like That 😉
Mondays are my “day off.”
(And by that, I mean the day I don’t get paid to work… I just do everything else. 😅)
I left the house that morning knowing full well I wouldn’t see it again until around 7:30 that night 🕢. I packed up my bag, snacks 🍎, and what I lovingly call the kids’ “homework.”— not actual homework, just some worksheets and fun review sheets to make myself feel like I’m keeping them educationally engaged between dance classes 💃 When it comes to school work and staying on top of their studies, the older two roll their eyes 🙄 but the littles still let me, so I’m hanging onto the little years while I still can! 💛
First stop: Work 💻. Even on a “day off,” there’s always some bookwork calling my name. Took me a few hours and then it was off to town because, of course, our dishwasher decided Monday was the perfect day to give up and leak all over the kitchen floor 💦. Nothing like adding “buy new appliance” to the to-do list before 10 a.m.!
Since I was already in town, I swung by Aldi 🛒 (because if you’re near Aldi, you have to stop — it’s basically the law 😂). One cart later, I was $100 over budget and somehow still forgot the one thing I went for. It’s a gift.
Then came the after-school hustle. You know that awkward window between school pickup and dance class? Not enough time to go home, but plenty of time for someone to get hangry. So we do what any smart mom does: dinner out 🙌. Last week the 12-year-old picked, so this time it was the 13-year-old’s turn. Culver’s it was 🍔🍟🍦 — because nothing fixes “Monday survival” like a butter burger and frozen custard.
Then off to dance! My daughter has two classes with a half-hour in between — just enough time to keep everyone mostly entertained. It’s chaotic, it’s loud, someone’s always missing a shoe, and I’m running on sheer determination and snacks… but honestly, I love it. The kids are happy, they’re learning, they’re living their best little lives. They love their activities, their friends, and the little moments in between. —So I’m just here for the ride — cheering, car-snacking, and making it all happen 🚗💃💛
We finally rolled into the driveway at 7:30. Everyone was tired, someone was still sticky, and the groceries were threatening to melt in the trunk. We unloaded, grabbed “a little something” from the pantry (because apparently Culver’s doesn’t count as dinner 🤷♀️), read a few books 📚, and called it a night.
So, was it a day off? Not even close.
Was it full of chaos, laughter, and crumbs in the backseat? 100%.💛
