Pumpkin Patches, Caramel Apples & Country Roads: A Family Day at The Little Farmer
š A Day at The Little Farmer:
Thereās something about fall that makes me think I can suddenly pull off those perfect Pinterest-mom days ā cozy sweaters, matching flannels, and kids happily holding pumpkins while I sip cider. Reality check: Iām a mom of four, so that dream usually unravels about ten minutes in.
Still, I couldnāt resist. So we loaded up the kids, and headed down those country roads to The Little Farmer in Maloneā a local favorite that smells like caramel apples and childhood memories the moment you pull in.
š Boys, Friends & Fence-Sailing Shoes
We met up with some of our friends this time, and I swear ā the boys all act like brothers. Within minutes, my littles were balancing across the stepping stones like it was an obstacle course on TV, giggling and nearly toppling into the dirt.
Meanwhile, the older boys had their own brand of entertainment. My oldest decided to launch his friendās shoe over the fence after they took his phone. (Payback, I guess.) I just shook my head and thought, it must be a boy thing. Between that, the constant wrestling, and the attempted pantsing ā letās just say it wasnāt exactly the peaceful fall outing Iād pictured. But honestly? It was hilarious.
š Caramel Apples & Sticky Fingers
If youāve ever been to The Little Farmer, you know the caramel apples alone are worth the trip. Fresh apples, thick caramel, and the kind of sticky mess that somehow ends up in everyoneās hair. We walked through the orchard, caramel dripping, the kids giggling with their friends ā one of those perfectly imperfect moments you donāt even try to plan.
The bakery there smells like heaven ā warm muffins, pies, cinnamon everywhere. We walked out with four pumpkins and a promise (mostly to myself) that weād ā make something togetherā later. Whether that happens is another story.
š¾ Country Roads & Real Life
Thereās just something about places like The Little Farmer ā no screens, no rush, no fancy filters. Just open fields, laughter, and the kind of chaos that feels right at home. My daughter found her happy place on top of the hay mound, while the boys ran wild and I tried to soak it all in.
The Little Farmer has become a yearly adventure for us ā a tradition thatās grown right alongside the kids. I still have pictures from back in 2016, when they went there on a school field trip. They picked pumpkins and apples, rode the tractor through the fields, and stopped by the Apple Parlor to see how the apples are sorted and peeled. They learned about the bees and pollination, rode the bikes, swung on the swings, and tackled the rope course like little pros. Seeing them return now, a little taller but with the same excitement in their eyes, made it feel full circle.
We didnāt get the picture-perfect fall photos ā but we did get real life: muddy hands, sticky clothes, and laughter echoing through the pumpkin patch. Thatās the good stuff.
š§” Until Next Time
By the time we piled back into the car, everyone was tired, sugar-filled, and a little dirtier than when we came ā which is exactly how you know it was a good day.
So if youāre looking for a fall outing thatās full of laughter, a little mischief, and a whole lot of heart, head to The Little Farmer. Bring your friends, your camera, and your sense of humor ā because with kids (especially boys), youāre gonna need it. Check out our visit here
