DIY Dishwasher Fails: A Country Home Plumbing Adventure

🚰 When “Helping” Turns Into a Plumbing Project (…and Then a Science Lesson)

If there’s one thing about life out here on our little country road, it’s that no project ever goes exactly as planned. 😅

This week, I was so excited to finally be getting our new dishwasher. Not just any dishwasher either — this one has WiFi, fancy buttons, and more settings than I’ll probably ever use. (Seriously… who decided dishwashers needed internet access?!)

The delivery guys came and I was ready to be helpful. You know, just doing my part to make sure everything went smoothly. Except… it didn’t.

Somewhere between “Can I hand you that wrench?” and “Oh, I think this connects here,” I managed to snap a small piece of plastic tubing right off the sink connection. 💧🙈

Cue the dramatic sigh and the sheepish, “Uhhh… hubby?”

I offered to call a plumber (because clearly, I should not be trusted with plumbing), but my husband just shook his head, and said, “That’s silly”. He went to pick the kiddos up at school and stopped at the hardware store.

I figured, great! Crisis averted. Time to test out my new, high-tech dishwasher!

Well… the next morning, I loaded it up, pushed the shiny buttons, and waited for that satisfying hum. I might have conveniently forgotten that the “broken sink connection” wasn’t quite hooked back into place yet. 😅

About halfway through the cycle, I noticed a suspiciously large puddle forming across the kitchen floor. Turns out, I’d just conducted a full-on water capacity experiment. 💦

Fun fact: I now know exactly how many pails of water a dishwasher goes through during a wash cycle. (Spoiler: it’s a lot. Like… a lot. 😂)

So yes, I got my fancy new dishwasher. But I also got:
✨ A lesson in plumbing.
✨ A mini science experiment.
✨ And another reason my husband just rolls his eyes whenever I say, “I was trying to help.” 😉

Because around here, even the simple home projects turn into stories worth telling — one HUGE kitchen puddle, one fix-it run, and one country road at a time.
