🌸 Blooming Memories: A Family Day at Dahlia Days + Flower-Pressed Cookies
A Day at Dahlia Days 🌸
This weekend we traded our usual country road adventures for a stroll through rows of vibrant dahlias at Airy Point Farms—and let me tell you, it was every bit as magical as it sounds. 🌼🌞
With the big boys off on their own adventure (camping 🎣🏕️ with Grandma and Grandpa), it turned into a special day for our younger crew. Sometimes those one-on-one (or two-on-two!) days are the sweetest surprise gifts. 💕
🌸 Flower Fields & Little Hands
There’s something about kids and flowers… they can’t just look. They need to touch, pick, smell—and in this case—✂️ cut their very own stems. The littles marched down the rows like seasoned gardeners, carefully choosing each bloom until their bouquet was as bright and wild as their personalities. 💐🌈
🌮 Tacos, 🧀 Mac & Cheese & 💃 Dancing Feet
Of course, no family outing is complete without food. Jaxson (7 year old) started out with mac & cheese 🧀 but somehow Dad’s beer tacos 🌮 became the main event. Let’s just say one plate wasn’t enough. 😂
Meanwhile, Brynlee (5 year old) found her rhythm on the dance floor. With music in the air 🎶 and sunshine on her face ☀️, she twirled and spun like nobody was watching. And really, isn’t that what these little moments are all about? 💃💫
🌻 Why We Loved It
The flowers were stunning 🌸, the atmosphere welcoming 🤗, and the whole day felt like a perfect mix of simple country fun 🚜 and memory-making magic ✨.
If you’re looking for an outing that combines beauty, good food, and family-friendly fun—Dahlia Days at Airy Point Farms is the place. They have this event two weekends out of the year! We’ll definitely be back next year! 💕
🌼 Bringing the Blooms Back to the Kitchen 🍪
After we got home, our colorful bouquet brightened up the kitchen table instantly—it’s amazing how fresh flowers can change the whole mood of a room. Inspired by our day in the fields, we decided to carry the flower theme into the kitchen with these Flower-Pressed Sugar Cookies.
They’re easy, kid-approved, and as pretty as a bouquet you can eat! 🌸🍪
🌸 Flower-Pressed Sugar Cookies 🌼
✨ Ingredients:
2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp baking powder
1 cup unsalted butter, softened 🧈
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
1 large egg 🥚
1 tsp vanilla extract 🌿
½ tsp almond extract (optional, but lovely!)
3 tbsp milk 🥛
Optional decoration: Edible flowers 🌺 (like pansies, violets, or chamomile) OR flower-shaped cookie cutters + sprinkles 🎉
🥄 Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
Cream butter & sugar: In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract; mix well.
Combine: Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, alternating with milk, until a dough forms.
Roll & shape: Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on baking sheet. Flatten each ball gently with the bottom of a glass.
Add the flower magic 🌸:
With edible flowers: Gently press one onto each cookie, then lightly press with parchment paper so it sticks.
Without flowers: Use flower-shaped cutters or just add colorful sprinkles. 🎨
Bake: 8–10 minutes, until edges are lightly golden. ⏲️
Cool & enjoy: Let cool on a wire rack. Arrange on a platter and admire your edible bouquet before snacking! 🍪💐
🚜 Country Road Tip
These cookies make the sweetest homemade gifts 🎁—wrap a few in brown paper tied with twine, and they’re as pretty as any flower arrangement. 🌾
Here's a few other ideas: 💡
Dahlia-Inspired Salad: Mix up a rainbow salad with bright fruits and veggies—think strawberries, mandarin oranges, cucumbers, and purple cabbage—arranged in layers that look almost too pretty to eat.
Blooming Cupcakes: Simple cupcakes topped with colorful swirls of frosting that mimic dahlias (let the kids help with decorating, even if they end up a little “abstract”).
✨ Life on country roads is about slowing down, soaking up the sunshine, and finding joy in simple days like this one. Whether it’s a homemade dinner in the kitchen or a field of dahlias, these are the memories that make it all worthwhile. 💛
